Timing & context
‘Used to’ explicitly describes a repeated habit. Four belongs to the earlier, lighter part of the year; Pepys says his rising has moved past five as the days shorten. The calendar shows the earlier seasonal habit.
Two passages explicitly describe recurring habits. Rising followed the changing daylight; office meetings had specified weekdays. They were recorded in different months of 1662 and do not supply a complete or fixed daily timetable.
1662 is the year of both passages. The 3 September entry recalls earlier rising by four and a change to after five; the 18 February entry records a recurring office-meeting schedule. The calendar combines these qualified habits, not the events of either diary day.
