The day shown

Staraya Russa · 1874

Anna Dostoevskaya recalled this household routine in Staraya Russa during the winter of 1874–75, while her husband worked on The Adolescent. Late rising, daytime dictation and writing through the night shaped the schedule. It represents that winter, rather than his whole career.
