Timing & context
The English version calls this breakfast. Bernard’s French says he returned to Aix to eat. Travel time, the meal’s start, and its duration are not specified.
Fellow painter Émile Bernard explicitly calls this Cézanne’s daily routine. The calendar follows Bernard’s recollection, quoted in Eddy’s 1914 book. Meal and return times are estimated; the pattern was not without exceptions.
The working routine Émile Bernard witnessed during his February 1904 visit. This is a recollection of repeated habits during that period, not a lifelong timetable.
